Most travelers will fly to Puerto Vallarta International Airport. From there, it’s a 22-mile (36 km) drive to Sayulita.

High season in Sayulita is from November – April. The weather is warm and dry, the surf is consistent, and wildlife tours (like whale watching) are at their best. If you want to visit at this time, book early.
Shoulder season is from May – June. There are fewer crowds and lush green landscapes. The weather is mostly dry, with the occasional afternoon shower. This is a great time for quiet beach days and good surfing, especially for beginners.
Low season is from July – October. The weather can be hot and humid, with frequent afternoon showers. Some shops and restaurants may also close for renovations. The surf is also bigger at this time, attracting more advanced surfers.

Yes, Sayulita is considered safe. It’s a laid-back town with a big focus on making sure tourists feel secure, and most travelers feel comfortable walking around day or night.
That said, do take the normal precautions like locking your villa.
You’ll also want to stick to bottled or filtered water to drink, both of which can be supplied to your villa.
Lastly, be sure to check the conditions before swimming, especially on the main beach. Sayulita does not have lifeguards, and strong surf and riptides are common.

Surf the breaks: Take a lesson right on the main beach if you’re a beginner. If you’re more advanced, you can head to La Lancha or San Pancho for bigger, cleaner waves.
Swim at Playa de los Muertos: A protected, sheltered cove just south of town, Playa de los Muertos is a great option for swimming or just enjoying some laid-back beach time.
Go on an ATV tour: Go off-road into the Sierra Madre jungle, see mountain viewpoints with panoramic shots of the Pacific, or explore hidden beaches and secluded coves.
