Languedoc Visitors Guide

Languedoc is a very popular region in France, as it offers a wide variety of landscapes and attractions to travelers. Although not as popular internationally as Cote d'Azur, Languedoc has long been a favorite destination for savvy Europeans that want to experience the south of France while avoiding the crowds and prices associated with the French Riviera. Unquestionably, tourism in the area is dominated by vineyards and by beaches, which is not surprising given the region's Mediterranean warmth. Despite its summertime popularity, though, Languedoc vacation rentals are available year-round, and the region's weather makes it an excellent choice for spring or fall vacations.

Choosing a Languedoc Vacation Rental

The first question to ask yourself when choosing a Languedoc vacation rental is what kind of vacation you're looking for. If you're coming to Languedoc for the wine, then your best bet is to choose a rental that's located directly on a vineyard, or at least within close proximity of one. Many winemakers open their vineyard up to tourists, and often times that means you'll be staying in a resroted chateau that has likely been in the winemaker's family for years. Since many vineyards are located close to one another, staying on a vineyard also means that you'll be able to easily tour other vineyards as well, meaning a trip to Languedoc can easily become the ultimate wine-tasting experience. If you prefer to lounge on the beach, though, Languedoc also offers a number of beachfront vacation rentals that'll put you within steps of the Mediterranean.

Getting to your Languedoc Vacation Rental

Because many Languedoc vacation rentals are located in the countryside, or in smaller beach towns, arranging transportation to the rental itself may be a problem. Thankfully, many owners offer to pick you up at the airport, which illustrates how committed these owners are to ensuring that you enjoy your vacation. Nonetheless, it is advisable that you rent a car if you plan on visiting Languedoc. Not only will a car rental afford you the freedom and flexibility to visit any village or town you want, but it will also allow you to enjoy some truly breathtaking drives through some of France's most scenic landscapes. Thankfully, many rental owners are also happy to assist you with a car rental, as well as to recommend local attractions that your favorite guidebook may have missed.
