A Nice Stay at Waverly House
We really enjoyed our six nights at Waverly House and would consider it if we were to return to Barbados. There weren't a lot of reviews on the villa prior to booking so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. As for the positives: The villa had plenty of space for my group of 6 (4 adults, 2 kids) and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. The beds were comfortable and the bedroom air conditioning worked great in all three rooms. The third bedroom can be configured for either a king or two twins. The verandah and backyard felt like a tropical oasis and the beach was phenomenal. There was plenty of shade on the beach, or areas in full sun, the water was calm, and there were very few people (probably because it is rather secluded and not a lot of access to it except for the other villas nearby). Waverly House is essentially a duplex and there are other villas close by, but we never had an issue with noise from the neighbors, could hardly tell there was anybody on either side of us. The housekeeper (Margarita) was very friendly and took care of general cleanup, beds, towels, and did some laundry for us. She was there twice during our stay. As for the negatives: Waverly House is on a rather busy stretch of road and the noise from vehicles (especially the public busses) is pretty high so if you're looking for complete solitude, this might be bother you. Minor gripes; the coffee maker is small and overdue for a replacement, we couldn't get one of the living room fans to work (the other fans downstairs we couldn't get to spin fast enough either) and it seems as though in the evening the villa holds onto heat so it gets quite warm and humid so we found ourselves retreating to our bedroom early. The washer/dryer units are quite small so if you want to get your beach towels and clothing ready for the next day it takes a couple of loads and a few hours. Other notes: We had a couple of minor issues that popped up but the local property manager was able to quickly resolve them. There are some beach bars/restaurants nearby, but if you plan to walk there by the road it is on the dangerous side given the lack of sidewalks (we didn't have a car on this trip, but even if we did parking might have been a challenge). We didn't realize that the villa has a security guard (shared with other nearby villas) from 6pm-6am and on the first night he caught us off guard by coming through the side gate in the backyard un-announced to let us know he was there. Summary; a really nice villa, simple, not luxury, on a great stretch of beach that I would consider if we were to return in the future.
